It’s about time I start writing. My goal for this blog is to give 18 to 21-year-olds a place to check for event dates and reviews in Philadelphia and just over the bridge in South Jersey.  Events where your fake IDs aren’t necessary. I’ll be 21 in 2 weeks, and I wish I had found a site with ideas like (I hope) this blog will have soon.

Here are a few things I have heard about for February:

2/6: First Friday! That would be… tomorrow. http://www.firstfridaymainline.com/

Now – 2/8: Philadelphia International Auto Show at the Convention Center.  I went to this one year, and it’s nuts.

2/5 – 2/8: They may be sold out already, I don’t know, but Broadway’s Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp are starring in RENT at the Academy of Music.  Check out http://www.kimmelcenter.org/ for tickets and information. If I hadn’t seen RENT like a billion times in NYC, I’d see this show. Who doesn’t enjoy a good rock opera?

2/8: Go make out in LOVE Park!  Ted Passon and All Ages Productions are filming a commercial for the “Stay Over in Philly” campaign from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at 15th and JFK, and they need lots of extras!  You could make out on a real commercial! They’re all for unique dress, too… personality is probably your best bet for actually getting filmed. I’m totally going to try to be there. It’s going to be really nice weather; I think the news this morning said 61 degrees!

2/11: Darius Rucker from Hootie and the Blowfish (remember them?!!?! …am I the only one excited about this? Probably) is playing at World Cafe Live, doors at 5:00 pm, show’s at 8:00. Visit WXTU.com to win tickets. Only Wanna Be With Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.

2/14: I’m going to do a separate entry for V-Day, but I want to post this one here. Ben Folds is playing at the Electric Factory on 7th and Willow. If you’ve never seen him live, go. Really, go.  Tickets are $35. Under 21s are standing room only, which is pretty cool, because if you’re really crazy you can cram yourself to the front of the stage. http://www.electricfactory.info/

2/20: If you’re into punky pop bands, Almost Arlington is doing a show in Cherry Hill, NJ. I really like these guys; I followed them to a few shows this past summer, and it’s always a good time.  They’ve got a few new band members, who Tom Camp (the band’s lead guitarist) tells me are really talented. I’ll post when I find out the exact address. In the meantime, check out their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/almostarlington

2/26: Loie Bistro and Bar has Pittsburgh’s DJ Nugget spinning with DJ Royale.  Since every Thursday is college night at Loie, they’ve got some good food specials, including 25-cent wings.  If you get there before 11:00 pm they won’t card you, so plan on doing this ahead of time! Besides, the later it gets the more PACKED it’ll be; I can tell you this first-hand. 128 S. 19th Street. http://www.loie215.com/loie215/
